Exciting news for American Leadership Academy (ALA) Vistancia as Greg Peters has been named the head coach of their girls’ varsity basketball team, set to begin in the 2025-26 school year! Known for his proven track record of success, Peters brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program.

In his previous coaching stint at Youngker High School in Buckeye, Peters led the Lady Roughriders to an unforgettable start, securing a school-record 4-0 run in the competitive 5A Desert West Region, which has consistently produced back-to-back state champions, Canyon View High School. Under his guidance, Youngker finished tied for third in their division, earning a much-coveted playoff play-in game, a testament to his strategic prowess and ability to elevate his team’s performance in high-pressure situations.

Before his time at Youngker, Peters also made an impact at Cactus High School, where he led the Lady Cobras to their best season in five years, marking his 100th career victory as a coach. His ability to develop talent and maximize his team’s potential shone brightly, and his transition from coaching the junior varsity boys’ team to head coach of the girls’ program speaks to his adaptability and deep basketball knowledge.

In addition to his basketball career, Peters has had a diverse coaching career, including impressive achievements in football, where he led Southwest Leadership Academy to two state championship game appearances, winning one in 2015. His leadership in both football and basketball earned him spots as a coach in the prestigious Canyon Athletic Association All-Star Games for both sports.

Peters’ basketball philosophy is rooted in a high-energy, up-tempo style of play, influenced by his experiences as a player at the high school and college levels in San Diego. His emphasis on fast-paced play, combined with his passion for student-athlete development, will undoubtedly inspire and challenge the young women of ALA Vistancia to strive for excellence both on and off the court.

As the Director of Special Education at Southwest Leadership Academy, Peters is dedicated to fostering the academic and personal growth of his students, ensuring they are not only ready for the challenges of college and career but also prepared to be leaders in their communities.

With his extensive coaching background, success across multiple sports, and unwavering dedication to student-athlete development, Greg Peters is primed to take the ALA Vistancia girls’ basketball program to new heights. The future of the Lady Defenders is undeniably bright under his leadership.

Having had the pleasure of considering Coach Peters both a friend and a mentor, I can personally attest to the positive impact he’s had on my life. He was one of the first coaches to bring his team to participate in my summer events back in 2013, and our relationship has profoundly influenced me as both an educator and coach. I am incredibly excited for his new role and have no doubt that Coach Peters will lay a solid foundation for continued success with the Lady Defenders.
