PHOENIX, AZ — Hillcrest Prep sent an early message Tuesday afternoon at the PHHacility, overwhelming Ascending Life 107–39 in a dominant performance fueled by relentless defensive pressure, balanced scoring, and an explosive perimeter attack.

The Bruins turned defense into offense throughout the contest, using their length, athleticism, and aggressive ball pressure to disrupt Ascending Life and create scoring opportunities. Four three-pointers from Charlie Barrajas with 12 points and Daniel Simon‘s highlighted an offensive explosion, but it was Hillcrest Prep’s defensive intensity that defined the 68-point victory.

The win improved the Bruins to 2–0 to open the 2026–27 regular season.

Simon Leads Balanced Offensive Attack

Daniel Simon led Hillcrest Prep with an impressive double-double, finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds. His ability to score around the basket and control the glass provided the Bruins with a consistent offensive presence.

Amoni Francis delivered another outstanding all-around performance with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. The versatile 6-foot-8 prospect showcased his ability to impact multiple facets of the game, contributing as a scorer, facilitator, and defensive presence.

Jamar Keys Jr. added 15 points while making his presence felt defensively with five steals and two blocked shots. Keys was particularly effective using his athleticism and anticipation to create turnovers and generate transition opportunities.

EJ Banks controlled the tempo from the backcourt, contributing 14 points, seven assists, and three steals. His ability to distribute the basketball while applying defensive pressure helped keep the Bruins firing on all cylinders.

Axel Bjurgert was a force in the paint, recording 10 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks. His physicality and work on the glass gave Hillcrest Prep a significant interior advantage.

One of the afternoon’s offensive highlights came from Charlie Barrajas, who connected on four three-pointers. His perimeter shooting stretched the Ascending Life defense and provided another dimension to an already explosive Bruins offense.

Mikey Williams Ignites Dominant Defensive Performance

While Hillcrest Prep’s offensive numbers were impressive, Mikey Williams helped set the tone on the defensive end.

Williams delivered a disruptive performance, recording five steals, three blocked shots, and seven deflections. His relentless ball pressure, active hands, and defensive intensity energized the Bruins and helped turn defensive stops into offensive opportunities.

The defensive effort extended throughout the roster. Keys added five steals and two blocks, while Banks contributed three steals. Bjurgert protected the paint with three blocks, and Francis added two more.

Hillcrest Prep’s defensive activity consistently disrupted Ascending Life’s offensive rhythm, limiting the opposition to just 39 points while generating opportunities in transition.

The Bruins demonstrated that their greatest strength may not simply be their ability to score, but their ability to overwhelm opponents defensively.

Bruins Building Early Momentum

With the convincing victory, Hillcrest Prep moves to 2–0 and continues to establish itself as a team capable of winning with both offensive firepower and defensive intensity.

Tuesday’s performance showcased the Bruins’ depth and versatility, with multiple players contributing across the stat sheet. Simmons controlled the interior offensively, Barrajas provided the perimeter fireworks, and Williams spearheaded a relentless defensive effort.

For a roster loaded with size, athleticism, and offensive talent, the commitment to defense could ultimately determine just how dangerous Hillcrest Prep becomes this season.

The Bruins have opened their regular season with two victories, and Tuesday’s 68-point triumph offered another glimpse of their potential.
