CAC’s Golden climbs back to D1

Central Arizona College is looking for their next coach after their Coach Geoff Golden recently announced that he accepted an assistant job at Tarleton State University. The Texans had a rough season going 8-21 last season while competing in the Western Athletic Conference. A change in leadership was the direction the athletic department took to build a new foundation.
The Texans hired longtime Baylor Associate Head Coach Bill Brock to establish a championship mindset and culture. It didn’t take long for Coach Brock to make a call to Coach Golden to add to his staff. Coach Golden has many years in the coaching realm and is known for developing guards and his recruiting abilities.
This season, Coach Golden took a depleted CAC squad to a 16-15 record. I covered his game against Eastern Arizona on January 18 where he took his ironman crew of 7 players and went head up against the top team in the ACCAC. Although the first half was rough, Golden rallied his team to a 2nd half comeback but ran out of time. In the adjustments that I witnessed, I am confident that Golden will do a fantastic job at Tarleton.
