Hooperz On1y puts together an amazing event to kickoff the Spring Club Basketball season. Their Kingz/Queenz of the City event has drawn teams locally and from around the West Coast. I was able to catch some of the younger prospects on Friday night. Here are some of the standouts in the games I attended:
Dezirae Benway Guard 2032
Younger sister of Destinee Benway, Dezirae is already making a name for herself with her tight handle, range, three level scoring ability, and confidence. She navigates the floor well and can strike quickly. I like her basketball IQ and I anticipate her stock to grow overtime. High school coaches keep a tab on this young lady.
Camryn Laidlaw Forward 2031
Laidlaw has a lot of potential and upside as she runs the floor well and has good length. I like her ability to protect the paint and rebound. She can also score from the low post. With continued development, Laidlaw will be a prospect to watch over time.
Anna Manning Guard 2028
Manning is an exciting big guard who is a crafty scorer around the rim. She has a quick release and can score from all three levels. One of the guards to watch for in the deep 2028 class. I know many high school coaches would like to have her in their program next season.
Sophia Moreira Guard 2028
Moreira is one of my favorite guard prospects as she can play both the scoring and point guard positions. Another big guard who knows how to utilize her skill set, size, and athletic ability to attack unsuspecting opponents. Her talent helps the depth of talent in the Arizona class of 2028. I project Moreira to be a top 20 prospect with continued development.
Maya Millage Guard 2032
Millage is the daughter of Scottsdale College Head Coach and former Arizona State legend Curtis Millage. She has an extremely quick and explosive first step which gives her the competitive edge on both ends of the floor. Although basketball is relatively new to her, Millage utilizes her natural athletic ability and excellent footwork learned from soccer to apply to the hardwood. Her defensive playmaking ability is what left me in awe as she was able to make an impact on the game forcing opponents to turnover the ball.
Lexi Nesland Point Guard 2031
Nesland is the younger sister of Xavier Prep standout Dominique Nesland (High Point commit) and daughter of former University of Hawaii-Hilo standout Brett Nesland. The point guard is very skilled and has a competitive drive. She has a high basketball IQ and makes the right plays. I really like her decision making, passing ability, and will to compete at a high level. Nesland will be a prospect to keep an eye on as she has tremendous potential and upside.
Taiyanna Pyles Guard 2030
Pyles is an athletic guard who is skilled and just flat out makes plays. She is a big guard who knows how to bully her way to finish at the rim but scores from the mid-range and three point land as well. I like her ability to make plays and hit shots in clutch moments. Pyles will be a highly sought after prospect over time as she has tremendous upside and abilities.
