We’re now less than two months out from one of the most highly anticipated events in Native youth basketball—the Tribe Athletics Native American Nationals, set to take place in Mesa, Arizona. This prestigious tournament consistently draws the elite high school girls club teams from across Indian Country, with perennial powerhouses like Legendary Elite, RezBombers, and Quiet Storm always in the spotlight. Joining their ranks in recent years is the rising force of Team Stronghold, a program that’s quickly establishing itself as a contender on the national stage.
Team Stronghold is led by the passionate and driven Coach Davin Leslie, whose leadership and vision have propelled the team into the spotlight. The roster is stacked with talented young athletes, many of whom hail from the Navajo and Apache Nations. These players not only bring skill and athleticism to the court, but also carry a deep cultural pride and community spirit that sets this team apart. With strong coaching, a dedicated work ethic, and a deep pool of promising talent, Team Stronghold is poised to make a serious impact at this year’s Nationals—and beyond.
Following an impressive showing at the Tribe Athletics Vegas Tournament of Champions, The Stronghold has firmly established itself as a legitimate contender for a deep run at this year’s Native Nationals.
This squad is loaded with talent, particularly in the backcourt. The guard play is dynamic and relentless, led by standout performers like Jaziah Billey (AZ Compass Prep), Malia Yazzie (Desert Vista), Ellysia Cutter (San Carlos), Woah Yazzie (Chinle), Caylee Longstreet (San Carlos), and Tamia Pietila (Miami). Each brings a unique skill set—whether it’s court vision, scoring ability, or on-ball defense—that makes this group a nightmare for opponents.
Their frontcourt and wings provide the perfect balance to Coach Leslie’s system, offering size, versatility, and grit. Amya Malone (AZ Compass Prep), Aliana Garcia (Dobson), Kylee Juan (San Carlos), and Lana Shirley (Dobson) round out a well-constructed roster capable of thriving in high-pressure games.
As summer basketball ramps up, excitement continues to build around the Varsity Division at Tribe Athletics Native Nationals. Media outlets, analysts, and scouts alike are buzzing with predictions on which four teams will make it to the Final Four. One thing is clear: The Stronghold has made a strong statement and looks poised to compete for a national title.
