One of the nation’s premier prep basketball programs is taking a major step forward.
Hillcrest Prep CEO and Director Nick Weaver recently sat down with GC3 Hoops to discuss the program’s move to the state-of-the-art Fire N Ice Sports Arena and partnership with SSS Academies, a move he believes will elevate every aspect of the student-athlete experience.
For Weaver, the decision was about positioning Hillcrest Prep for long-term success both on and off the court.
“The driving force of the move is it takes Hillcrest to a whole new level,” Weaver said. “The facilities are the nicest in the country and it gives our athletes a major advantage with everything they have here on site. The academics are second to none. OSAZ and SSS Academies have an amazing track history and will help our student-athletes be the best they can be in the classroom.”
The new home provides Hillcrest Prep with resources rarely found at the prep school level. The Fire N Ice Sports Arena is designed to mirror the environment of a major collegiate athletic department, giving student-athletes access to elite facilities every day.
“What excites me about the facility is they will have four state-of-the-art courts with an elite weight room and yoga studio,” Weaver explained. “I am very excited about the recovery aspect of it with all the cryotherapy, stretch lab, and recovery pools. The feel of Fire N Ice is that of a Power 4 University. Elite all the way around.”
For years, Hillcrest Prep has been synonymous with high-level player development, national schedules, and helping student-athletes reach the next level. The program has produced numerous Division I players and professional athletes, and Weaver believes this partnership will only accelerate that success.
“I believe five years from now this merger will mean a lot of successes,” Weaver said. “I believe it will help us produce even more NBA players and Division I players at the highest level in the country. Who wouldn’t want to come play in a facility like this one?”
The move is also expected to expand Hillcrest Prep’s reach and opportunities for student-athletes. In addition to its nationally recognized boys basketball program, the organization is preparing for significant growth in several new areas.
“We are also looking to expand who we serve by adding a regional team, girls national and regional teams, as well as middle school national and regional teams,” Weaver added.
The expansion reflects Hillcrest Prep’s vision of becoming a complete developmental pathway for student-athletes, serving players from middle school through post-graduate basketball while maintaining the elite standards that have made the program a national brand.
As Fire N Ice Arena continues construction and development, excitement is building around what this partnership could mean for basketball in Arizona. With world-class facilities, proven academic support through SSS Academies, and Hillcrest Prep’s established reputation for player development, the future appears brighter than ever.
For Hillcrest Prep, this isn’t simply a change of address.
It’s the beginning of a new chapter.
One built around elite facilities, academic excellence, player development, and a vision to remain among the top prep basketball programs in the country.
