As the season comes to a close, the staff at GC3 Hoops has put together a 4A Player of the Year watchlist. It has been very difficult as there is an influx of talent in women’s basketball. Nomination criteria for this list are upperclassmen who played in at least 70% of regular season games and made a significant impact to their respective teams.
Diamond Stevenson – Deer Valley
Stevenson is a do-it-all prospect who contributes on both ends of the floor. She helped lead her team to an overall record of 18-7 and #8 ranking. The Skyhawks will depend on her leadership to make a deep postseason run.
Sophie Morales – Seton Catholic Prep
Morales is a floor general who just fills up the stat sheet. She is currently averaging 10.6 points/game, 4.5 rebounds/game, 6.2 assists/game, and 3.2 steals/game. Morales brings a lot of value to her team as she is the coach on the floor who directs the offense and defense.
Navae Guidry – Mesquite
Guidry is an athletic playmaker who makes an impact on both ends of the floor. She is one of the main reasons why the Wildcats are slated to have a deep playoff run. Guidry not only scores but fills up the stat sheet.
Morningrain Honani – Flagstaff
The Eagles are always loaded with backcourt talent year in and year out. Honani is building her legacy as one of the top guards to come out of Flagstaff. A potent scorer and facilitator, Honani will be one of the reasons the Eagles defend their 4A state crown.
Cassie Coolidge – Sahauro
Coolidge never seems to disappoint. I’ve been following her career since her sophomore year and she continues to improve and find ways to impact the game. The Cougars will rely on her leadership to make a deep postseason run.
