Hawaii’s North Shore is a stunning region known for its natural beauty, laid-back vibe, and world-famous surf spots. Located on the northeastern coast of Oahu lies Kahuku High School. Kahuku is renowned for its football program. The Kahuku Red Raiders have a storied history and are a powerhouse in Hawaiian high school football.
Although the other sports may be in the shadows of the football program, girls basketball has been rising in recent years. 5 ’10 2027 Guard Tailele Wily-Ava had a solid freshman campaign where she helped her team to a 5th place finish and an Oahu Interscholastic Association League Title. She averaged 13 points/game, 3 steals/game, 4 rebounds/game, and 4 assists/game.
Wily-Ava stands out as a formidable shooting guard with a combination of impressive physical attributes and athletic ability. Her stature and athleticism set her apart, allowing her to excel and impact different aspects of the game. Wily-Ava is larger than most of her peers in the \ guard position, which gives her a significant advantage on the court. Her superior athleticism—evidenced by her speed, agility, and leaping ability—enables her to make dynamic plays and perform well in fast-paced game situations.
Wily-Ava demonstrates a high level of versatility in her scoring ability. She excels at scoring from all three levels on the court. I am very impressed with her range as I was able to witness her hit shots from deeper than WNBA range. She is able to play both guard positions, demonstrating her versatility. As a point guard, she can orchestrate the offense, set up plays, and manage game tempo. As a shooting guard, she focuses on scoring and creating offensive opportunities.
Her athletic ability helps her defend at a high level. She is athletic, tough and strong enough to guard all five positions. One attribute which stands out is her ability to crash the boards. After rebounding the ball, she has the ability to bring the ball up the floor and set the offense up or push the tempo for transition scoring opportunities.
Wily-Ava’s blend of physical attributes and skill sets makes her a standout shooting guard with a bright future. Her comprehensive abilities on the court—ranging from scoring to defending—demonstrate why she is considered one of the top prospects in her class. She is a surefire division one prospect with solid work ethic and athleticism. Wily-Ava has been receiving division 1 interests and I expect her to be a solid mid-major level prospect.
