In the competitive realm of women’s basketball, Ivona Djikanovic stands out as a promising talent poised for success. The 6’0″ senior from AZ Compass boasts an impressive 3.8 GPA and plays as a small forward, showcasing both athletic prowess and academic dedication. Born in Serbia and having spent time in Greece before moving to Arizona in August 2024, Ivona’s journey reflects not only her versatility on the court but also her determination to excel in the sport she loves.
Having previously played at Trinity Christian in Atlanta, Georgia, Ivona is eager to make a significant impact during her final high school season. Her skill set includes a remarkable ability to finish at the rim with both hands, making her a dynamic offensive threat. Additionally, Ivona takes great pride in her rebounding skills, emphasizing the importance of being a well-rounded player. “I work hard away from the gym to improve my shooting,” she shared, highlighting her commitment to continuous improvement.
Ivona credits her father as her primary source of inspiration, recounting how his experience playing basketball overseas influenced her passion for the game. “I look up to my dad,” she remarked, illustrating the strong bond that motivates her to pursue excellence.
Off the court, Ivona leads a balanced life, enjoying time with friends, drawing, and writing songs. Her love for rap adds a creative outlet that complements her athletic endeavors. As the upcoming season approaches, Ivona reflects on her team’s camaraderie, stating, “Our team is like a family. We get along and play hard together. I think we can win a championship.”
Ivona also expresses appreciation for her coach, James, whose extensive knowledge of the game has proven invaluable. “Coach James is great. He really knows what it takes to succeed,” she said, underscoring the importance of strong leadership in her development as a player.
Looking ahead, Ivona has set her sights on playing Division 1 basketball, a goal that aligns with her aspirations in sports medicine. “I want to stay involved in sports, even when I’m not playing,” she explained.
