Tucson High School Girls’ basketball is really starting to gain recognition not only with local Colleges and Universities, but also from around the Country. Much of this has stemmed from Club basketball exposure particularly in the Phoenix area. One player in particular from Tucson who has gained Division 1 college attention is AJ Lual. AJ is 6’5” and has a 7 ft. wingspan. She is long, athletic, and can really run the floor for an athlete her size. She received attention last club season from coaches at Washington State, Oregon State, and Texas Tech to name a few. AJ will be playing next season at Salpointe Catholic High School under Head Coach Joseph Luevano.
Asked about what she considers her strength’s, AJ replied, “I’m having much more confidence in going up strong to the basket, communicating with my teammates, having a positive mindset, and shaking off mistakes or bad plays.” She has really grown over the last year or so, and has tremendous potential which is what college coaches are banking on. AJ is really focusing on becoming an all-around player this summer, working on her outside shot and ball handling skills. She is also hoping to be a factor for
Salpointe this season, and helping her team win a State Championship. After High School AJ would like to play basketball in college and pursue a Psychology Degree. “Playing basketball in college and becoming a Psychologist is something that I have dreamed about doing for a long time. Hopefully I can accomplish both.” If AJ continues to improve and become a more all-around player, she will be highly coveted amongst Colleges and Universities because of her length and size. We will continue to provide updates on AJ’s progress as she continues to move up the local and national recruiting boards.
