Union High School’s (WA) Brooklynn Haywood joins the 1K Scoring Club as only a sophomore. The 5’9 point guard is one of the best prospects in the Northwest Corridor. I am not surprised that she was able to score that many points in a short period of time. I first scouted Haywood at the Gems in the Gym: Fresh Faces prior to her beginning her freshman year. In one of the games I scouted, Haywood went off showing her advanced skill set in scoring at all three levels, facilitating, and locking up on defense. She put up 30 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals in the first half alone.
Haywood will have a huge spring and summer as she already possesses offers from Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, Eastern Michigan, Portland, and SMU. Currently, she’s rated as a 4 star prospect (ESPN). I wouldn’t be surprised if she gains another star during the next evaluation process.
Haywood is a potent scorer and facilitator who creates at will. She looks to get her teammates involved. I really like her natural ability to lead and high basketball IQ. I project this young lady to be a high major prospect as she continues to develop and evolve. Her recruiting will catch fire this spring and summer.
