The recruitment of Pua Davis, a 5’7 guard out of Wahiawa, Hawaiʻi, continues to gain momentum after she picked up an offer from defending NJCAA Division II National Champion Pima Community College.
Davis has been one of the guards GC3 Hoops has continued to track because of the versatility and toughness she brings to the floor. She is a legitimate playmaker who can create opportunities for herself and her teammates while also impacting the game on the defensive end.
What stands out about Davis is her ability to contribute in several different ways. She is a three-level scorer who can attack the basket, make plays in the mid-range and stretch the defense from the perimeter. She plays with an excellent motor, competes on every possession and brings the type of defensive toughness coaches value from the guard position.
Davis was also a member of the first-ever GC3 Stars team, helping lead the program to a Final Four finish. During that run, she showed her ability to compete against quality competition while making winning plays on both ends of the floor.
From a scouting standpoint, I continue to love Davis’ ceiling.
She has tremendous upside and potential, and there is still another level she can reach as she continues to develop physically, sharpen her overall game and gain more experience against high-level competition. Her motor, competitiveness and ability to play multiple roles in the backcourt give her a strong foundation moving forward.
The offer from Pima is especially intriguing because of the platform the program can provide.
Coming off a national championship, Pima has established itself as one of the premier junior college programs in the country. If Davis ultimately chose to continue her career there, she would have an opportunity to develop inside a winning environment while competing on a national platform that could showcase her talent and upside to four-year college programs across the country.
For a prospect with Davis’ potential, that type of situation could become an important launching point in her college basketball career.
The recruiting process is still developing, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Pua Davis is a guard college coaches should continue to keep on their radar.
With her combination of playmaking ability, three-level scoring, defensive toughness, motor and long-term upside, Davis has the tools to become an impactful player at the next level.
